Bijou Phillips - I'd Rather Eat Glass (1999)

Here is another album that was in the top of an unpacked box, and is perfect for this website. It is the only album by child of the stars, Bijou Phillips. Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas. She has dabbled with some success in acting and even more success in modeling, being the youngest model to appear on the cover of Vogue. She also had a long-term relationship with Sean Lennon. But she is probably best known as as a wild child celebrity daughter and former tabloid staple. With that caché, she managed to get a record deal and worked with producer Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads. The album is eclectic pop rock, as would be expected with Harrison's participation. Listening to it now, it seems to me that it wouldn't be out of place in today's music environment, and is far better than many of the albums recently released by Avril and her wannabes (and it rocks the hell out of her half-sister Chynna's solo album). Alas, it was a flop. Bijou still pursues acting and music, but she is unsigned. If you go to her Myspace page you can hear some recent demos. If you ask me, she should be putting in her application now for the next season of Rock The Cradle, which she would be bound to win (though she is no Chloe Lattanzi LOL).

  2. Of course not, darlin'! Since we both troll the cut-out bins for trashy femmes, it only makes sense we'd run across the same things! LOL

  3. I love Bijou as an actress but this album is a bit disappointing. Bitch needs to gay up her sound with some cheap keyboards and a tacky dance beat!

  4. I've always loved this album more than is healthy.
*Sigh* I remember the days when I saw her doing promo for it in a VH1 interview from the lilith fair. Yeah, I hated the lilith fair, but I thought Bijou was fantastic.

  5. If I'm not mistaken, does she also appeared on the gruesome movie Hostel 2produced by Quentin Tarantino? I saw her name there. And I love her look, =)
