Sue Chaloner - Appreciation (1993)

Brit Sue Chaloner has had a long music career. Her first notable musical foray was a part in the late 1960s in the British version of Hair. After moving with the show to Amsterdam, she became half of soul duo Spooky & Sue. They had several hits in the Netherlands in the 1970s, but eventually broke up in 1976. In 1977 she released the song "Give Me Love", as Sue Royce, to little success. Over the late 1970s and 1980s she released a few more singles in different genres, including the disco track "Tip For The Top", the reggae track "Missin' Mr. Marley", and the funky "Primitive", but all failed to hit. Then, in 1991, she hooked up with production trio 3 Man Island. They had already had success in the rave scene with Rozalla, and they crafted a similar sound for Sue's only solo album on rave-centric label Pulse-8. The sound was more soul oriented than Rozalla, however, consisting of more classic-sounding house and Soul II Soul-ish numbers. And her voice had become much deeper than in her earlier work. The pairing with 3MI proved to be Sue's biggest international success, with the singles "Answer My Prayer", "I Wanna Thank You" and "It's Over Now" all becoming club hits. The album itself went unnoticed, however. She released one further non-album track, "Movin' On Up" in 1993, but has maintained a very low profile since.
