Patria - My Rules (1999)

Patria was one of a wave of pop-R&B acts that emerged in Canada in the late 1990's and early 2000's (previous postee Jazmin and likely future postee Jodie Resther were also among them). None had great success, and Toronto resident Patria was no exception. She was the premiere act on Black Market Records, a label founded by former member of Canadian classic rock band The Guess Who, Dominic Troiano. His belief was that Patria would be a great launchpad as her appeal was universal. Much was made of her Filipino heritage and pop-soul voice, and an Asian audience was also pursued. A deal was struck with a Japanese indie label and the album was launched both in Japan and Canada. Troiano co-produced the album with another Canadian music vet Howard Ayee. The first single "Baby Feel My..." had some club presence, but the follow-ups "Good Love" and "My Rules" failed to ignite the clubs or radio. There is no sign of Patria currently, though like Jazmin, she may holed up elsewhere, orchestrating her return as a pop force to be reckoned with.

  2. Can anyone help me find a song by her? It may be called “Yes or No”. It’s playing in the background of a beach scene in an episode of Dawson’s Creek season 5 episode 19. The lyrics are “I’m so scared to make a promise I can’t keep. Say yes or no got no time to think it over. How many times I’ve crossed this line but I know in my heart our souls entwined”
