Lorraine Scott - All Talk (1991)

Lorraine Scott was a US-born singer who moved to Canada and then burst onto the Canadian dance scene with a couple of dance hits, "Hot For You" and "Dangerous".  Before that, in the mid 80s, she released a few singles including "Dance On The Open Road", the double sided "Wishful Thinking / After The Dance" and "Crying For Love". The aforementioned dance hits soon followed. A couple years later she finally released her debut album on an indie label. While still sticking to her house roots, she also threw in a few pop and R&B numbers for good measure. The album included a great remix of "Dangerous", and her next two singles, "'Til I Found You" and "If That Was A Dream", were also pop-house tracks. Her video was on rotation on Muchmusic, she performed on several TV shows (I discovered her singing "Hot For You" on Electric Circus) and her songs were played at clubs, but the lack of a major label push ensured that her music would find only a small audience. According to her website, she released another album in 1996, and indeed a Japanese release entitled Tune Box exists, but the details remain sketchy. She also did a couple of house collaborations and recorded a few reggae covers of R&B hits, including "La La Means I Love You" with Alton Ellis.  I was pleased to find that she does indeed have a website, which exists primarily to advertise her group, The Lorraine Scott Group, who perform at weddings and corporate events. Go there if you would like to hear more from her, including the scorching "Hot For You".
