Since I have a spare moment, thought I'd throw in another quick post (thanks to Liz for the recent kick in the butt. ;) I'd never heard of Charm until a few months ago when I heard his song "Butt Naked" on the amazing 'Bottom Feeders: Ass End Of The 90s' column on the Popdose site. Every week Dave Steed features songs that made the Billboard Hot 100 but not the Top 40 in the 1990s. There are so many songs I'd either intentionally or unintentionally forgotten about, and it's a weekly fave of mine to visit. His 1980s version was even more amazing. Anyway, Charm (New York native Phillip Falcone) made it to #91 on the Hot 100 in 1992. While Steed loathes the song, I found it quite fun. It's like a lost C&C Music Factory track - hip-house with diva vocals. So I immediately went online and found the album for very cheap and thought I'd take a chance. Luckily the rest of the album follows suit, with many hip-house numbers surrounded by some more traditional hip hop songs and many interludes (as seems to be the custom with hip hop albums). Charm released another similar sounding single, "I Love Music", but it failed to generate the same heat and it would appear Atlantic Records dropped him. He seems to have kept busy since by primarily DJing, though I'm sure he's also dabbled in music making. Should you wish to know more, feel free to add him as a friend on Facebook and hopefully he'll accept. ;)
