Keeping in the vein of actresses turned singers, here we have the one and only album by actress Kari Wuhrer. Best known for her role on TV's Sliders and as an MTV host and VJ, as well as parts in tons of B movies, most people wouldn't know that she began her career as a singer. Once her acting career took off, she finally released a solo album on a small label. It's an interesting little album of trippy pop-rock, obviously trying to ride on the coattails of Alanis Morissette. However, Kari is no Alanis. While the lyrics are sometimes as ridiculous as Alanis' (with titles like Sunflower Man and Your Octopus, that's no surprise), she certainly doesn't have Alanis' vocal chops. Her voice is quite thin, actually pretty much what you'd expect from a pretty little starlet - not Paris Hilton thin, but somewhere in the J Lo (incidentally her co-star in Anaconda) range. It is a fun little experiment, but it's not surprising that a major label didn't pick it up. Once again, it's a good thing that she had an acting career to fall back on.

ReplyDeleteamazing...i just love her voice, she should record another one, this cd is great and it's too bad she never got chance to promote this album. It could be great..
ReplyDelete'Tight Pants' from the episode Way Out West isn't included as a bonus track? :P She really was the best part of Sliders after the show went to pot in S4.
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please, please, please, please, please can you repost this?
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance x
The album has been re-upped. ;)
DeleteI've always loved this album, a great effort for a first album, i also love here growl changes - the same reason i love Harry Chapin. Wish there had been more.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Kari on Conan. It is THE most uncomfortable interview. It is on Youtube.
