David Burrill - Bump Da Booty Blue (1993) and Sinner (1998) DOUBLE POST!!

In celebration of my ranking on Pop Trash Addicts Best Blogs of 2008, I offer you another juicy double post! This time I'm featuring a male vocalist (there are too few on here, I know) who also had an illustrious career in gay porn!! In fact, David used his porn work to boost his profile and thus garner adoration in gay clubs everywhere, where his dance music no doubt went down very well. He is said to be straight, and despite the provocative titles of his albums and some of his songs, this is likely true, as he did 'solo work' in the movies he was featured in. ;) He also posed nude for several magazines, including Playgirl. This gave him enough of a profile to pursue his first love, music. Apparently he released an album called Cover Boy in the early 1990's, but this album is impossible to find. Then he released Bump Da Booty Blue on the Macola label in 1993. It was self-produced, and the music is primarily house, with traces of techno, not unlike Snap! or Technotronic. In 1994 he teamed up with another hottie, Chad Spikes, and they released an album together as DV8 called Who's Normal, also on Macola (an early version of the Sinner track "Let The Walls Fall" is featured on it). It featured Isle postee Susie K on backing vocals, and they later produced her debut album. It took David five years to release his next solo album, Sinner, which was also self-produced and was on another indie label. This time the music was much more electro, with heavy traces of freestyle and house (and it includes an electro remake of Prince's "Little Red Corvette"). It was hoped to help him cross over into the mainstream, but it didn't. Overall his music is better than expected, well-produced and well-sung, especially on Sinner. His attempts at rap on Bump Da Booty Blue are more Marky Mark than 50 Cent, but they surprisingly work. He has not recorded anything since, as far as I can tell, and there is no info on his current whereabouts on the internet. But with the success of Colton Ford, there is obviously an audience for an aging male gay porn star, so he should strike while the iron is hot!

UPDATE: Leave it to Consolecharlie to dig up the latest info! David is the founder and lead producer for the Sample Factory recording studio in Raleigh, North Carolina. Go to their website for more info and recent pics of David.

UPDATE 2:  Just got an e-mail from David himself and he wanted to me to direct you to his other businesses, FMBChopperParts and FMBSportBikeParts which obviously sell motorcycle and bike parts.  He's keeping busy! And thanks for visiting, David!

  1. LOL--I saw him perform in a tiny gay bar in Fort Collins, Colorado circa 1990. He was an ass and most likely bisexual (or escorting for side cash) as he had several guys sniffing around him and left with one of them after his "performance"! Anyway, thanks for posting--interesting blast from the past!

  2. Just when I think this amazing blog could not possiby get any more fabulous you come up with a double shot of gay porn pop. I think this guy is pretty fierce. He just needed to hook up with some obscure freestyle diva for a duet to really throw me over the edge. Thanks for another amazing post!

  4. Confession time: One of the first porn movies I ever saw was David Burrill's "Inside David." I was too young at the time to rent porn, a guy I was 'seeing' then had lent it to me. Being that it was back in the day (the late 90's) when it was not nearly as easy to view videos on the net, I hadn't seen anything like it before. I remember one of the sequences was an x-rated 'solo' music video to one of his songs. It was really cheesy, looking back now. At the time though, I thought the movie was just beyond hot..

I downloaded Sinner somewhere else before, but this is my first time hearing Bump Da Booty Blue.. Obviously his lyrics and rapping are completely and totally ridiculous ("stick it in, and I'll turn the key.. lock the door and I'll set you free.." what poetry!) but I'm loving it nonetheless! Thanks again for this!

  5. I have been a fan of David Burrill when he was modeling. Also I knew he was recording music back in the 1990's , but I wonder what he is doing now (2010).

  9. During the time that David Burrill was traveling the circuit he made an appearance at the famous gay bar Backstreet in Atlanta. I had taken a break from the dance floor and found a seat away from the dance floor. Lo and behold, the management set up a table for the young Mr. Burrill to autograph photographs right beside me. I believe that I offered to move but he sat next to me and we chatted all through his autograph session. David was very personable and friendly and not the least big ageist as I am considerably older than he. I had a great time talking to David and making remarks about the star-struck twinks who came to get autographs. By the way, David had performed a number of his songs that night right on the dance floor without a raised stage and did a very commendable job of presenting them under such circumstances. Incidentally, I was just looking for evidence of him on the internet when I came across this site within a minute or so. Thom. Atlanta seems to be the place for music and movies these days. Who knows, Maybe David Burill will come back to town because there are lots of music venues here.

  10. Hey, I was just paging through the May 1988 issue of "Obsessions" magazine. David Burrill was the reason a friend of mine bought it for me back then -- I thought he was extremely attractive and sexy. It's the only porn magazine I've ever owned. I'll be darned if he doesn't still look handsome. As Consolecharlie pointed out earlier, you can see a few pictures of him at
    http://www.thesamplefactory.com/Recordingstudio/index.html
Choose the Staff link on the left for what I suppose is a recent picture. But check out Clients, too, for a couple more. Oh, and the Studio pics section: you'll see a framed photo on the wall in one picture that must be David from 30 years ago. :D

  13. Met David.. Hmm. Late 80s, early 90s.. I, too, was too young to be out in clubs, but had fake ID.. He came to NJ.. Had major crush on his pics.. Been looking for them ever since.. So hot.. That dark bush, pubes, tan, eyes.. Somebody mismanaged his career.. Shoulda been a bigger star. Was super cool to me too. Rjr

David Burrill lived down the block from me on Debra Drive in Petaluma, Calif. back in the day. I could tell you some interesting stories. Let's just say he wasn't a good neighbor.

  18. I saw David Burrill perform at the Paradise Garage in Denver around January 1993. I got in with a fake ID and watched his show on the dance floor from a safe distance. He was fine (for what it was), which was talking and singing to a backing track, stripping to a red G-string, and inviting two other guys on stage to dance and undress (one got down to his undies, the other down to his jeans.) I want to say there was even a moment involving whipped cream. I got an autographed picture after the show, which he signed, "Great sex! David Burrill"
He mentioned being on talk shows, but I've never tracked them down.
About 10 months after seeing him perform, I ended up visiting a friend who worked in a porn theater and watched the David Burrill solo movie. I remember it had a shower scene, park scene (with him "loving" watermelon), a garage scene (with him "loving" motor oil and a carburetor) and finally a music video. I remember giggling more than being turned on.
I bought the cassette Bump Da Bootie Blue but mostly listened to hit for camp value. It may become a segment in my radio show www.bottomsofthebarrel.com
