Monik Garo – Monik Garo (1994)

This is going to be a short one, kids, because I have no info about dear old Monik. I do know that she’s Canadian and that she released only this one album. It’s a dance pop album, part euro-house, part classic house and part pop. Half of it was produced by Barry Harris, formerly of synth-pop act Kon Kan and currently part of remixers extraordinaire Thunderpuss. The other half was produced by unknowns. Monik did have minor hits in Canada with “Natural Desire”, “Tell Me Why” and “Gotta Get Close To You” (which was co-produced by isle postees The Boomtang Boys), but a minor hit in Canada is basically no hit at all. And her appeal certainly did not carry to other parts of the world. She had no profile and quickly disappeared. This is definitely a case of “where are they now”? It’s a fun dance album, though, so give it a go.
